『 The Dog Born To Be Mild 』
Solo Exhibition, 2022, Pangutrial, Taipei
「I remembered that over the past few years, I always felt that I had no head and wanted to find my lost head.」
There are too many illusions, so they need to be utilised, or perhaps the illusions are using me as a medium to convey intentions and messages. Every piece of work is very simple to me: 'I draw what I see.'
This 'seeing' is not limited to the scenes received by the retina; it includes vague images in the mind,
the sensations of the skin, the imagination of some organ tightening, and the fragments of language flooding in. I think that 'seeing' is a kind of 'replication and transfer of any moment,' regardless of where it occurs, in which organ, or how it is conveyed. As long as I feel that I am receiving a strong signal at that moment, I store them and, at the appropriate time, stack them into a state, re-presenting them in a non-realistic manner.
It's an experience akin to trading life for life. When I draw in this way, I feel as if all things related to my existence and vitality are poured into the picture, while the rest of me is left desolate.
This exhibition has been awarded the 2022 National Culture and Arts Foundation Exhibition Grant.
